Prologue

In front of the curtains

Ladies and Gentlemen
Welcome to our theater production
„Romeo and Juliette“
By William Shakespeare

We are members of this
Very new Theatre Project
That has been started a few weeks ago
And is now opening his curtains
For the very first time

As we hope
That you will like our show and
As we hope
That this production will be
The beginning of a long theatre story
Here in the Slums of Nairobi and
As we hope
That working on theatre productions
Will give as some more opportunities for our future
We will call our theatre
The Hope Theatre

Ladies and Gentlemen
Because of having no spotlights so far
We cannot get the stage dark and …

What? As we don’t have light
It will not going to be dark?

Yes. Because of the daylight!

But as the first scene is playing
In the darkness of the very early morning
When the sun and the children are still sleeping

We kindly ask you to close your eyes

Finale

FRIAR LAURENCE (Pastor Idaki):

Too late, too late, I come too late!
What shame, what fatal mistake, what mortal accident!
Who called for Romeo and made him hurry?
What coincidence? Why had that minute been too long and the other too short?
I wanted to save them all and reached a final disaster.
What am I going to do now?
I will call them all to make them see what their hostility has achieved.

Enter all of CAPULETS and MONTAGUES from the front door
FRIAR LAURENCE stands up

So, have a look now. This is how you story ends.
Sit down, I will be brief.
Because my short date of breath is not so long for this tedious tale.
Romeo, there dead, was husband to that Juliet.
And she, there dead, is that Romeo's faithful wife.
I married them.
I did it, because they were in love,
I did it, because I wanted them be the beginning of peace between you.
I did it, because I felt right for Good.

Why, what do you think, does this town have a bridge?
That you can kill each other between their bridge piers?
That you can fight your attacks and counterattacks?
No!
The bridge is to connect the people of Verona, to make you join forces.
That’s what the bridge is for.
Verona is one town with one wall around to save all people of Verona.
And all people of Verona are THE people of Verona!

A glooming peace this morning brings.
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head.
So, think about and stop that unreasonable foolish situation.
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things.

For never was a story of more woe

Than this of Juliet and her Romeo
