In 1998, Stephan Bruckmeier founded the “Wiener
Theaterbureau”. With the help of that association,
he – in his role as director and producer –
staged several theatre projects at extraordinary locations
in Vienna. Thus, he produced for instance the play “Woyzeck”
in the gasometer in Vienna Simmering, the Austrian premiere
of ”Entertaining Mr. Sloane in the famous disco
P1, the play “Orgie” at the transient hotel
“Orient” or “Das Satansspiel vom Göttlichen
Marquis” at the cinema in Mödling.
He always tried to cooperate with contemporary musicians
and graphic artists and organised exhibitions, concerts
and readings combined with cross-over-projects.
With “Schauspielerei” in Cologne, he created
the Detana Art Festival. At this festival plays, concerts
with experimental music and exhibitions were performed
simultaneously and made this festival a special event.
Bruckmeier was always interested in both experimental,
cross-over productions as well as classical theatre. He
was able to realise both leading exponents within the
framework of his directorships at both the theatre “Rampe”
in Stuttgart and the Lower Austrian Donube Festival. He
took over these directorships in 1997 (Stuttgart) and
2000 (festival) in cooperation with Eva Hosemann. He was
in charge as director, fitter, author and producer.
